Ceanothus arboreus 'Ray Hartman'
Ray Hartman Ceanothus
Description
The 'Ray Hartman' is the most commonly grown tree variety. It rarely grows less than 15' tall in part shade, but often makes a broad shrub to 10' tall and 15' wide in full sun with restricted watering. Light burgundy buds appear in late winter and early spring, turning to spikes of medium blue flowes with a slight dusty or grayish cast. The smooth, rounded leaves form an excellent browse for deer. -Monterey Bay Nursery

Replace turf with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs. If you have areas where no one uses the grass, patches that do not grow well, or a turf area too small to water without runoff, consider replacing the turf with water-efficient landscaping.
