Description
This fast growing tree can reach 45' and 35' wide (36" per year). It can live 50-150 years. Leaves are deciduous, compound and light green. Flowers appear in spring or summer but are considered inconspicuous. Large brown or purple pods appear in summer and fall. Trunk is usually straight, with one central leader. It can be black or brown, furrowed or smooth. Overall habit is spreading, similar to umbrella shape. This tree does best in full to part sun with loam or sandy soil. It does not tolerate coastal conditions. Established trees are drought tolerant. This tree attracts bees and some folks are allergic to the pollen.
